Paul Haynes
Owner | Director of Operations | Columbia and the upstate

Paul started his career as an historic remodeling contractor, and for 15 years he tackled just about every kind of residential repair and remodeling task imaginable. Having a creative nature and a degree in fine art, he endeavored to improve processes and results on every job he completed. Historic houses almost always need some structural repair, and Paul became the go-to guy for big engineering problems and dealing with houses that suffered decades of rot and neglect. Not satisfied with just repairing the structure, he started Complete Crawlspace with his business partner, Mike Bergen, to fill the need for qualified contractors working to properly identify and durably correct the problems causing the repairs he was doing.
Today, Complete Crawlspace is the go-to company top-selling real estate agents rely on for repair addendums and smooth closings, and they frequently partner with respected engineers and indoor air quality professionals to tackle the most challenging moisture and structural issues found in homes. Thoughtful and process driven, Paul will work tirelessly to perform the highest quality repairs, treating everyone fairly and with respect.
Paul is plant obsessed and maintains a large home garden. He still paints and creates, and his wife Kourtnay keeps him busy improving their home. In their free time, Paul and Kourtnay enjoy good food, good wine, and good company. They love animals—especially dogs and chickens—and think the best way to explore a new place is on foot. They like to cook, read, go to art shows, beach it, and have friends and family over for meals, games, or relaxation by the water.
Mike Bergen
Owner | Director of Operations | Charleston and the lowcountry
Mike studied engineering at Virginia Tech and spent a good part of his youth co-founding a non-profit that delivers medical aid to remote jungle villages. This international aid organization is still helping communities to this day.
Once back in the US, his mathematical mind led him to fine cabinet building, and he joined Paul in creating beautiful kitchens and bathrooms at Haynes Construction. Seeing a huge need, they partnered up and started Complete Crawlspace with the intention to bring the same high level of craftsmanship to an often overlooked part of the home. Mike applies his attention to detail to all the work his team produces in the Lowcountry area. He even acts as eyes for one of Charleston’s oldest and most prestigious engineering firms. Mike and Paul collaborate on all things mold, moisture control, and structural repair, and a lot of what sets them apart from the competition are the unique processes and materials they use to get the best results. Mike is quite possibly the most knowledgeable moisture remediation specialist in the state and is often called in to correct other companies’ mistakes.
When he is not under a house, Mike lives for his family and fishing—though it’s unclear which one comes first. He and his wife Olivia have a son and daughter, and when the weather is right, the whole gang ships off on one of Mike many cruising vessels. When those kids get a little older, there’s not going to be a safe fish in the sea!
Jason Taylor
General Manager | columbia and the upstate
Jason is a Lexington native and started working for Paul over 15 years ago. He had an obvious aptitude for the work, and quickly rose to his current position as Columbia-area manager for Complete Crawlspace and Complete Mold Removers. Jason has a fine-tuned attention to detail that is critical to the quality control process.
He or his assistant manager, Toby, QC every job during the work and after to ensure nothing is missed. 10-20% of our current workflow is fixing other companies’ work, and he guards so that we are never on the other side of that equation. Jason is also chief employment strategist. He firmly believes that you hire on character and teach them the skills. As such, he has developed an extensive training program with the crews so that they are constantly learning how to do their jobs better and are adding new skills. Manager, Teacher, Quality Control Engineer, Jason wears a lot of hats, but because of the foundation that he helped build, our crews are fully supported!
Jason has a passion for all things bugs and watches. He is raising a growing family with his fiancé Holly, and when he has a quiet moment, he can write you a poem or scratch out a sketch that you would be proud to hang on your wall.
Toby Roberson
assistant Manager | columbia and the upstate
Toby is the rock that all this is built on. Paul’s oldest employee and high school friend, Toby is house-dad for the crew. He looks after them and makes sure they have everything they need to get the job done right, including oversight and problem solving skills.
In a single day, Toby might bounce around from several different cities, checking on the crews and keeping jobs on track. Toby is a truly kind and caring individual, and no matter what the crew needs, Toby is there for them—on the job and even after hours. If he can help you out, he will, and he takes pride in the fact that this is what we do for a living. Toby can instantly make you feel better about a bad situation.
For one of the company’s most “senior” employees, Toby sure doesn’t act like it. He enjoys skateboarding, video games, drawing, and is a big horror movie buff. Work hard, play hard, that’s Toby’s motto!
Zack Roberts
assistant Manager
The newest member of our management team, everyone calls him Thor—because he’s tall and blond and wields a hammer. All the guys look up to Thor…literally. He is technically savvy and an excellent carpenter. His attention to detail makes him great at quality control, and he is always able to help the guys through difficult challenges.
Thor and his girlfriend have a regular Brady Bunch, raising 7 kids between them both, yet he manages to show up every Monday ready to work. His hobbies include cooking, cleaning, homework, and sleeping.
Kristy Short
Office Manager
Kristy somehow ended up in the wrong Carolina, but now that she’s here, we aren’t letting her go! Kristy is the one keeping the whole show running. Currently a crew of one, Kristy does our marketing, financial management, records keeping, permitting, HR and payroll, and so much more. Talk about talented—most companies need a whole office staff to do what she makes look easy. If you want something done around here, you know who to call.
When Kristy wraps up her four-day work week, she likes spending time with her young niece and her husband, and she enjoys going out with friends. She loves tending to her plants, and with her background in design, Kristy is always improving her home—landscaping and a new deck being the most recent projects.
Brandon Gordan
Lead inspector
Fleeing the perfect weather and beautiful beaches of California for the swampy southern coast, Brandon showed up on our doorstep with little experience, but a great attitude and aptitude. To meet Brandon is to like Brandon. His positive attitude is infectious, and he always has time for you despite his busy home life.
When Brandon is not evaluating and estimating jobs, he is raising his two kids with his amazing wife, Stephanie, tooling on some small engine, or winning moto-cross trophies. His mechanical mind fits right in with what we do, since understanding the whole system is how you solve complex moisture problems
